Vieng Joom On: Pretty Teahouse by the River
Thursday, May 6, 2010

Place: Vieng Joom On (in Northern Thai dialect, meaning 'pink city')
Location: 53 Charoenraj Rd. T.Watgate A.Muang Chiangmai 50000
[visit http://www.vjoteahouse.com for more information]
[more pics at http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=169667&id=643712934&ref=mf]

I went there for the first time with my darling friend as a model (http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=162222&id=643712934&ref=nf), then I went with my mom, my sister and my brother-in-law for the second visit. The place is gorgeous with deep, vibrant colours (mainly pink) and is exquisitely decorated in every corners. The fact that it's just right by the Ping river, the main river of the Northern Thai region, is absolutely a plus point as you can enjoy the scenic view in fresh air while sipping your favourite cup of tea. The main market of Chiang Mai is just across the river, too. So speaking in terms of decoration and location, the place definitely deserves a 5-star rating.

Nonetheless, speaking in terms of edible stuffs, I am not hugely impressed. Maybe it's due to the fact that I have never been a tea-lover, and the selling point of the place is tea. Vieng Joom On sells a wide variety of tea, and merchandises like tea pot and tea leaves for bringing home too. All I ever tasted so far was smoothies, blended tea, and assorted cake. They are okay, but the prices will only be reasonable after you adjust your perception to seeing that you're actually paying for the atmosphere.

Overall, I think it's a good place to hang out with a small group of friends or to spend your lazy sunday afternoon chilling. There are also vintage coffee shops and old houses around Vieng Joom On since the street that it's located on is a heritage road, so you can park your car there and take a quick look around or take nice photos. Recommended for those who want to explore Chiang Mai just a little bit more :)
